CHURCHES TOGETHER IN LEAMINGTON MISSION WEEK 2015

LEAMINGTON CHURCHES UNITE FOR MISSION WEEK

Hope 15 2

.

Churches Together in Leamington are holding a Mission Week led by Roger Murphy this week.

Churches Together in Leamington started the Mission Week 2015 with Praise in the Park on Sunday May 31st.   Christians from the whole town met around the bandstand in the Pump Room Gardens to praise God in informal worship.

The Mission theme continues during the week as activities are planned to encourage the whole community to worship God.  The evangelist, Roger Murphy, has been appointed to lead the mission.  He is a Church Army Captain and was for 10 years the Staff Evangelist for the Church Pastoral Aid Society (CPAS) based in Leamington Spa.  For the last few years he has specialised in mission weeks and events.

Praise in the Park 2015 launched Mission Week. Overnight rain and heavy morning downpours were not a deterrent and fortunately at 11.00am there was a break in the very wet weather.  The large gathering of people from a number of  churches in the town met around the bandstand in the Pump Room Gardens. Many people brought their garden chairs and rugs, a few brought picnics, and everyone enjoyed a lively, if somewhat chilly, service in the open air.

The Revd. Jonathan Jee led the service and introduces the various people taking part.  Action choruses were sung and the opening prayers for HOPE Festival 15 Week were led by the Bishop of Coventry, Bishop Christopher Cocksworth.

Brief summaries were given by representatives of local inter-church ministries which give help and guidance to those needing counselling, practical help or guidance.

Interviews with Lizzie Knight and Roger Penney disclosed the moving and dramatic journeys of faith in Jesus Christ they each had made.

Roger Murphy, the evangelist who is leading the Mission Week, gave the main address about how the acceptance of Jesus can change everyone’s life and he encouraged people to attend the week’s different activities to learn more of Jesus Christ.
