The annual PRAISE IN THE PARK service was held on Pentecost Sunday, 4 th June 2017, at 11.00am in The Pump Room Gardens, Leamington Spa. The Service was led by the Revd. Jonathan Jee, Vicar of St. Paul’s Church, Leicester Street, Leamington Spa. The Preacher was James Lawrence who worships at St. Mark’s Church in Leamington and who works with the Church Pastoral Aid Society (CPAS) in leadership development. St. Paul’s Church organises the annual ‘Praise in the Park’ event for the benefit of the whole town. Around 1,500 people from many of the churches in the town gathered together to worship and pray for Leamington. The event was a great expression of our Christian unity. St. Paul’s Church contributed the music, stewarding and technical expertise to make the event a success. People brought their fold up chairs or a rug and enjoyed praising God with other people from local churches. Some also brought a picnic to enjoy afterwards. For those who were unable to get to the Pump Room Gardens, there was the usual 10.30am worship at Radford Road Church.

On the mornings of August 1st and 2nd we held our Children’s Activity Morning for children of Primary School age.

Parents and carers were welcome to stay for the two sessions if they so wished.

The mornings were packed with fun, activities, drama and song and the children  learnt a little more of the love of Jesus and how we can talk with him in prayer. The theme was based on building houses and  included the way Jesus described himself as the corner-stone of the church. The children also enjoyed hearing about the wise man and the foolish man who built their houses on rock and on sand.

During the two days nearly 30 children attended. Here are self-portraits of a few of the children who came:

The children chose cardboard boxes which represented the people of the church. They turned the boxes inside out to show that Jesus can change our lives. The boxes were then painted with pictures of things that make us happy in God’s world.

These are pictures of some of the activities we did:

Everyone learned such a lot about how Jesus is the cornerstone of our lives. We saw a film about the story of the wise man and the foolish man who built their houses on the rock and on the sand and sang a song about it. It taught us to build our lives on Jesus who is our Rock. He will guide us and help us throughout our lives whatever difficulties we face.

The children (and the helpers) really enjoyed their activity mornings and thank Jane for the leadership and planning.
