On Thursday 4th January, we held a children’s activity morning, attended by 20 young participants, plus a few parents. The theme was “Stars and Angels”, and our URC minister James began by telling the children the story of how the Angel Gabriel appeared to Mary to tell her that she was to become the mother of the Son of God. They were encouraged to act out the part of Mary, and try to imagine how she must have felt to hear such amazing news. The children then went on to enjoy a variety of different craft activities: creating and decorating angels and star headbands from lolly sticks and shiny paper, colouring sheets and paintings of angels, assembling colourful stars using beads, and making delicious biscuits shaped like (you guessed it!) stars and angels. The session ended with some singing, accompanied enthusiastically by the children on chime bars – a real “heavenly choir”, and finally a prayer to close.
Many thanks to all the willing helpers who assisted and supervised the action, as well as providing refreshments, and of course clearing up afterwards! Although we missed Jane Grunfeld, our usual leader, it was a lively and successful morning.
