May 13 -May 19
Christian Aid Week started with a Sponsored Walk around Victoria park and the Pump Room Gardens. The sun was shining on a warm May morning as the first walkers from the Leamington churches set off at 8.00am. Others joined in during the morning but the number of walkers was very disappointing. Our picture shows two walkers – one from Dale Street Methodist Church and the other from St. Peter’s – just about to set off on their first lap of the two mile circuit whilst the local Christian Aid Chairman looks on.
There were five walkers from Radford Road Church.
During the week many of our local churches took part in the House to House collection. Radford Road had ten people involved in this. Some collected individually whilst others went out in a group.
In addition people were asked to take an envelope after the Church service and either fill it with coins themselves or give it to a neighbour to fill. They were asked to return the envelope to churchthe following week.
The money raised will be used by Christian Aid and its partners in places like Sierra Leone, one of the poorest countries in the world, to encourage the local people to initiate schemes to make their communities self-sufficient.
This year’s Christian Aid theme is
”Let’s Give the Tools”.
Radford Road Church collected over £15oo for the work of Christian Aid.
House to House collection £1005.02
Sponsored Walk £368.70
Of this amount £225.00 was Gift Aided and so we can re-claim a further £45.00
Many thanks to all who walked, collected or gave so generously.
