Congratulations to Margaret and Chris and all the vounteers who help at the Night Shelter

The Church is delighted that Margaret Moore and Chris Johnson have been awarded this year’s Citizen of the Year Award in Warwick District at the Gala Awards Ceremony organised by the Brakes Trust, The Courier Press and Alsters Kelley Solicitors.

There were 25 nominations on the short-list which recognised the work of volunteers in the District who make a huge difference to people’s lives. They are all unsung heroes.

The judges had the difficult task of selecting the winner and it was a delight when Margaret and Chris were declared the Citizens of the Year. Well done both of you.

The nomination was submitted on behalf of Radford Road Church and read:

Chris Johnson and Margaret Moore  are two very remarkable, yet unassuming, people. They realise that there are people in our town who are without homes, food or anyone to care for them.   For years they have jointly run the Night Shelter at Radford Road Church and for two nights every week, together with a group of volunteers, they welcome unreservedly the most vulnerable and destitute members of society and give them food, clothing, a safe place to sleep, washing facilities and the opportunity to talk with sympathetic listeners.

The rest of the week they can be found helping their clients to find accommodation, advising on money matters, assisting with form filling and accompanying people who need medical attention or those who are brought to court. They work unceasingly and give of their time and energy to help those who have nothing and who have nowhere to turn.

This unstinting work done with love and kindness by these two very modest people is truly wonderful. They never seek praise or reward for their work but are always there to help and befriend the outcasts of society. They are undoubtedly unsung heroes who deserve to be honoured.
