MORE THAN GOLD –
Olympic Events at Radford Road
The local community was invited to join us in watching the major events of the Olympics on our BIG Screen
As part of the nation wide Christian events linked to the Olympics we offered our buildings as a “Family Friendly Zone’ in which people could get caught up in the Olympic events and enjoy being part of a community.
A family event took place on 27th July, the afternoon of the Olympic Opening Ceremony. Starting at 4.30pm there were games and activities for children and adults to participate in. From 6.30pm there were light refreshments available in our Pizza and Pop Café, then everyone was ready to sit down and enjoy watching the opening ceremony at 8.00pm.
The church was also open on the two Saturdays of the Games, the 4th and 11th August, when both days started with Big Breakfasts served between 9.00am and 11.00am.
The closing ceremony on August 12th was not screened because of the lateness of the event.
Invitations were sent to local schools, advertisements placed in local papers and invitations taken to nearby houses. This was a Community event so that local people could enjoy the Olympic events in a pleasant, safe environment. Everyone was welcome.
The church was decorated with flags from all the nations
